INTRODUCTION

The  question that led to the writing of Explaining Unhappiness is “What are you afraid would happen  if you weren’t unhappy?” If the  answer to this question fails to intrigue you–I mean really fail to grab your attention–then this book is not for you. But be forewarned, if this question remains unanswered, sad to say, you will be fated to live apologizing for your self while fruitlessly blaming your childhood, genes, hormones, biochemistry and other people for your unhappiness. This book is for anyone who is tired of making themselves feel bad  and who has  become disenchanted  with well-intentioned chicken soup remedies aimed at fixing what human beings think is wrong with them.  It was written for the reader who will not settle for anything less than  a decisive  answer to the question that inspired the  writing of this book.  If you think that you know the answer to this question, let me respectfully assure you that  you are not even close.  Read on, the answer will astonish you.
